Conversations to Have with your Parents Over the Holidays
As always, the holidays are a busy time for everyone with shopping, decorating, cooking, cleaning, and maybe even hosting. This can be a strenuous time for seniors who may no longer be able to manage everything on their own anymore. This Christmas is a great time to sit down with your parents and talk about the future. Here a few questions to start with:
Do you see yourself moving from your current home?
This is a great way to gauge how your parents feel about downsizing. While it is difficult for many seniors to imagine leaving their long-time home, they may no longer be able to take care of everyday chores and tasks without assistance.
What is your timeline for retirement?
While your parents might be likely to offer a general timeline, it is important to help them establish a specific goal. Encourage them to make the move sooner rather than later. Too often seniors wait until an accident happens to make their move.
What type of community are you looking for?
Assisted Living communities can offer as much or as little support as your parents need — while still maintaining the freedom that comes with “Independent Living.” Some communities have several different levels of living including Memory Support that your parents can easily transition into if their needs should change.
The best choice for your parents may be right in your own backyard! Twin Creeks is an Assisted Living and Memory Care community opening soon in Riverview. Our dedicated staff works with each individual to learn how to best cater to their needs.
