We are fortunate in the Riverview area to have many different options for retirement living. From independent living apartments to Assisted Living and Memory Care communities, here at Twin Creeks, we firmly believe there is a right home for everyone. We are pleased to have the opportunity to help you discover which option is right for you.

Many people do get confused with the different terminology, and we’ve put together a helpful glossary to help you understand the terms of senior living.

Active Adult Community is a real estate development that offers independent, relatively maintenance-free living to residents 55 years and older. These communities must have at least one 55 year or older resident in the home and 80% of the occupants must be of this age. No one under the age of 19 can permanently reside with the home.

Residents are adults looking for an active lifestyle in a country club setting where they can take advantage of amenities such as golf courses, clubhouses, walking trails, hobby centers, computer labs, and other recreational centers. Outdoor maintenance is covered in a monthly HOA fee.

Life Plan Community or Continuing Care Retirement Community is a master planned community typically with a mix of apartments and villa style homes. Life Plan Communities engage older adults who want to live in a community with no indoor or outdoor maintenance and a host of activities to appeal to like- minded retirees. These communities provide a guarantee that residents can live in the community for life – regardless of financial or medical change. On site Assisted Living, Memory Care and Skilled Nursing Care is provided for residents who have lived there independently.

Assisted Living Facilitiy (ALF) is housing and limited care designed for individuals who need some assistance with daily activities but do not require the care of a nursing home. People with mild health problems are offered a unique living environment to live in, offering residents the comforts of home, as well as a social community to stay active in.

Memory care community is a distinct form of assisted living care that specifically caters to patients with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and other types of memory problems. In the memory care at Twin Creeks, residents will have access to life stations where they can reminiscence with each other about the past or work with a team member on a special “job.” Many residents who were engineers or builders in the past may enjoy the wood working station or building wall. Some may find peace in folding a basket of towels or baby clothes. These jobs give our residents a sense of purpose and bring happiness into the day.

Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) is a health care institution certified by Medicare and/or Medicaid and is regulated by the Department of Health, meeting strict criteria. Medicare certifies these facilities to ensure they have staff and equipment to give skilled nursing care, rehabilitation services, and other related health services.
